Mathematics
At IS 73, the Math Department believes that mathematics is much more than numbers and formulas. It is a powerful tool for understanding and making sense of the world around us. We begin with sense-making, encouraging students to explore problems, ask questions, collaborate with their peers, and engage in meaningful discussions that deepen their understanding. Through real-world applications, students learn to see the relevance of mathematics in everyday life. We firmly believe that every student can become a "math person" with the right guidance, support, and perseverance. By approaching mathematics as a series of puzzles to solve, we foster curiosity, confidence, and a growth mindset that empowers all learners to succeed.
